Okay guys,
I am "restoring" an old set of RB Gretsch drums.
By looking at the catalogs I am guessing that this was originally a "Black Hawk" kit.
I say that assuming that the kick drum was not a special order and that this was a stock kit.
I have a 22" kick and a 13" tom The 12" is missing.
The og owner told me there was a 12" but it is gone.
I got a 16" ft from Gerald Sterkin to make a set.
They were wrapped originally but someone stripped them years ago.
I am going to re-wrap them at some point.
So keep the fact in mind that this kit is kind of a pieced together Frankenkit.
I'm sure it has very little collector value.
I just want it to be a nice player set.
My question is this:
Should I wrap these drums in a finish that was not in the catalog in 1967 when these drums were new?
Black Pearl is my 2nd choice which was in the catalog.
My 1st choice of wraps that I like and want to use is Black Oyster Pearl.
I don't know if that wrap was ever an option for RB Gretsch drums.
So should I go with what I like the best?
Or should I stick with the catalog?
I realize that I'm already a pariah on this website but lets see if I can make it worse.
Thanks
