Radio King Experts: Your Experience Is Needed! Last viewed: 10 hours ago

I want to know if some of you VDF people have ever re-wrapped Radio king shells? Could you please share any experience about removing the wrap/replacing the wrap/ dealing with the embedded wrap in the scarf joint? Any tips would help.

I have a friend from U.K. who's convincing a bunch of older guys to get as much Radio King stuff they can get and rewrap and put together a set. They are kinda reluctant but he wants to know if this is a project that can be performed...They already have a bunch of shells from the 40's (The ones with the wide reiforcement hoops) and theyre looking for the hardware...

Thanks in advance RK guys!!!!!!!!

The wrap into the scarf travels the entire depth of the shell, meaning it is part of the bearing edges.

This has been discussed here before and I remember the best option presented was to cut the wrap at the edge of the scarf and start the rewrap at the same point.

remember the shells were designed for calf heads so modern heads fit snug as it is so shells its impossible to get the head over the wrap as well.. something to keep in mind

Radio Kings with the wrap embedded into the scarf joint? Isn't that just a Ludwig/WFL thing? I've never seen or heard of a RK like that.

Wow, I had no idea, thanks Kevins! So it's just the toms and bass drums? Or were there snares like that too?

The solid shell RK snares didn't for sure, but I don't know about the 3-ply snares.
