Questions about Ludwig Club Date kit Last viewed: 5 days ago

Loading...

Hi,

I am new to vintage drums and trying to learn. This is a listing for a ludwig kit... looks like 1965... comes w/ Pioneer snare, 20" kick and 12" rack. No floor. Was this a standard kit or is the FT missing? This is listed for $800. I checked on Ebay but didn't find many listings to compare outside of a Red Sparkle kit for 600.

Opinions/expertise for this newbie are appreciated!

Kit's known as the COMBO kit which did not have the FT as opposed to the CLUB DATE which did.

$800's on the higher end especially since you're gonna want the 14" FT. You can always lowball at $500 or offer 600 which I'd consider fair.

When checking out vintage kits it's always a good idea to fully inspect, especially whether all heads resonate properly. You can have a beautiful kit to the eye but if it sounds like _ _ _ _ to the ear, eh! That is, unless you muffle your heads.

Good luck ~

Finding a 14" floor tom in white marine pearl will be difficult and expensive ($400 at least). Even more difficult will be find one with a fade that matches the rest of kit.

I would pass.

Yes & no. Early 60's you get the 22"; later 60's the 20" (& the 12").

Thats interesting, I thought mine was a combo until I found my floor tom.

To the original posting member, I would look for a complete kit. It took me four years to find my floor tom and it did cost over 400.00. The only good thing was the other drums were bought for a good price.

Thank you!

There was one change between the '64 and '67 catalog. The combos were usually 22/13 like Nevin mentioned. But the '67 catalog has them listed as 20/12 with an Acrolite. I do know that there were some 20/12/ Jazz Festival combos sold in '66. I've run across a few that were supposedly bought that way and actually bought one myself. I too ended up adding a matching floor tom.

Right.

And it's kind of obvious the seller did what any greedy little dude would do and broke up the kit just to sell it's most valuable piece (14" floor).
