Question? Approx. Value Leedy Last viewed: 1 second ago

Loading...

Hello folks I am not a drum aficionado and apologize ahead if I use the wrong terms or descriptions.

Situation-My father in law passed away many years ago and the Wife has had his drum set stored in a closet since approx. 1985.

She has decided to part with it and we are looking for input as to the approximate Market value so we get a fair price for it.

Your input is appreciated.

The drums are Leedy and were purchased in 1949 and the date inside one of the drums is 4905.

Badges on the drums reads Leedy-Elkhart, Indiana.

The drums are black pearl.

The symbols are Zildjian.

There is an original seat with the set and travel cases.

The drum rings passed the magnet test and they are chrome over brass.

Measurements-

Bass Drum Diameter 20 1/8" Height 17"

Tom Drum Diameter 14 1/4" Height 6 3/4"

Snare Drum Diameter 13 1/4" Height 10"

Large Zildjian Symbol Diameter 19 3/4"

Small Zildian Symbol Diameter 17"

High Hat Symbols Diameter 14" with Leedy pedal.

Also shown in the one pic is showing an extra pedal for base drum and misc. items in lower right corner. Overall the set is in good shape with normal wear for it's age the only defect is on the bass drum the lugs that hold the head on are missing some chrome and would need redone.

If you folks could help us out on the value of this set it would be greatly appreciated-thank you in advance.

I never really know what I am talking about but I believe that is called the Leedy "Aragon"

Five years ago I paid $700 for an Aragon kit (Three drums only, no hardware) from 1959 that needed a bit of work.

After cleaning, repairing and playing them for awhile I sold them last year (just the three drums) for $700

Hope this helps!

Anyone else think this may be a re-wrap?

As far as the answer that the drums are a rewrap they definitely are not these drums are my wife's father's drums and they are all original never refurbed or anything done to them.

Hello and welcome.

I do believe that the 4905 means May 1949

I have a set from the same era that I been looking for a snare to match.

This set looks in nice shape.

I believe that the sizes are 20" bass, 12" tom and 14" snare.

the cymbals are 20" ride, 17" crash and 14" HiHats ( just going by your measurements.)

I would agree with Richie that the drums by themselves would be $700-900 depending on condition. The cymbals depend on the year (check stamps) could add $300 -500 more depending on era and condition. the cases and other hardware maybe $200. The market has been weird lately so could go up or down but they are quality drums and cymbals.

Of course I am not an expert just giving an opinion. It would be nice if you can sell as a set and not break them up but some might say you could probably make more money selling separate. Good luck hope that helps. If you do separate might be interested in the snare.(I am not advocating to separate just for the record.) It would look good with this set that I have.

Hopefully someone else will chime in also and would be good for someone on the forum to get them.

Thanks for the reply's so far it is very helpful and appreciated to get information from people in the know and I know it has been said you are not professionals but with your knowledge you really are.

As far as breaking the set up we really don't want to do that we want someone that appreciates them to have the whole set and the miscellaneous items and there are some old drums music books that go with them. Easier for us too to just do one sale.

What a great kit ! And to have the hardware, cymbals, trap case etc is even better. As far as the re-wrap question, you already answered that and I don't think they are either because I have a snare from the same period with the identical wrap and badge, I love the look of the Black Pearl that looks identical. A beautiful kit that I am sure one of the VDF members would love to have as a part of their collection. Good luck on the sale, I personally would agree with Wayne and Richie on the price. I could see them going for the $900 - $1000 ballpark with everything included. there is a kit on eBay that has been there for a while asking $3200 but it is a bit older with different period specific stands, etc.

Hope this helps some.
