Q re: Club date lugs Last viewed: 2 hours ago

The silver sparkle inlays were what was "standard" with the black lacquer, wasn't it? I hadn't seen gold sparkle inlays before (until that pic!).

Yes, the black lacquer looks nice with the nickel hardware. I moved a set that was black lacquer with chrome, and it looked good, too. Just a plain, simple finish, and sometimes plain and simple are the best!

Mike -- 8 lugs on the 12x15 FT (for the Club Date)? And did they use the standard (straight) CD FT legs? Just thinking out-loud here, as I may have the shells to put a project together...

mine are 8 lug but they are converted marchers. i would imagine the real deal 12x15 floor toms from the late 50's and early 60's were indeed 8 luggers as well. and yes, they take the straight clip type legs on those from the factory as well.

Thanks! That's kinda what I figured... and I could have done the research, but that's partly what this site and it's members are for, right?

I've still got a few marchers left over, including some 12x15s. I have done a little research on something similar, but so far other than old catalogs I've not found much. Did Ludwig ever do a 12x22 BD with CD type of lugs? The "New Yorker" BD had the classic lugs. I've got an old 12x22 Ludwig shell that was part of a HUGE marching tom set (12x18, 12x20, 12x22), and am thinking of doing a New Yorker reproduction... So any info/knowledge/expertise would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
