Powertone Snare on Craigslist Last viewed: 8 seconds ago

Loading...

Hi, I came across a Powertone snare on craigslist with this description, "Early 1960's Rogers 5x14 snare drum, early clockface strainer, bread and butter lugs...."

The drum has a clear interior, no internal tag, BB lugs, round clockface with black backgound.

The seller said that early Powertones have a clear interior finish with no tags.

Does this sound right?

Thanks,

I would think an 8 B+B lugged snare would be called a "Holiday." They had tall hoops and deep snare beds to accomodate calf heads.

The early Powertone did actually have B&B lugs. I have also seen Holidays with clear interiors. The earliest Powertones that Ive seen had paper labels that were typed or hand written with the words Powertone. But without a tag some flags go up. How does he know which one it is? The only way to tell is to measure the snare beds against a Holiday made in 63 for reference. Holidays are deeper but were prolly put on with a belt sander so theres no exact measurement. However there must have been a jig of sorts with a stop piece to get some consistency. Remember... buy the drum, but not always the story.
