Ported Slingerland Toms, just got a huge collection from Slingerland artist! Last viewed: 5 days ago

Hi, my first post, long time professional drummer and vintage enthusiast. I just got a big collection of 70's / 80's Slingerland drums from my buddy who is moving. He was a Slingerland artist based in Chicago and sold me two custom badge Magnum Maple kits plus a bunch of other random cool drums including these 12" and 16" toms. They have ports cut between the lugs along the top rim. Were these available to the public or is this a prototype type of thing? (Sorry for the graffiti on the small tom!) They are fitted with the May special 57 internal microphones. Any ideas what they are or value? No bass drum, just the toms. I had never seen a ported one before. I'll post more pics if interested.

Welcome to the forum! I've never seen those ported toms, either. They do look factory, though, so my guess is that they were a prototype. All the other drums are also great!

Cool, thanks for the info! I forgot to get exact details from my friend and figured you all would have fun seeing some of the drums. I will probably list these toms for sale. I have some fun in store. I'll post some better shots once the kits are assembled and ready for sale :)

I'd say somebody with an idea & a router had some free time... If you look closely you can see that the cut edges are rough and I'd say recent...

Cheers

John

These guys have a new interior miking system for bass drums, just speaking of ported drums. I saw these at the Sydney Expo the other week. Not my scene at all, but looks like a good product.

That's a good haul, by the way. I've never heard of MAY drums, though...
