I picked this up at a junk shop today for $10.

It seems to have a solid bird's eye maple shell.

12 lugs and the snare wires are under the batter head.

Looks like Rosewood hoops?

Very early Ludwig Weather master head.

Any ideas?

This reminds me of one of those odd drums that were sold as "Tango" snares. I also have some odd snare drums similar to this that were inside of fairground music machines. (what are the dimensions?)

Totally stumped, allow me to ramble a little,.... The inside thick hex bolts don't look like anything used by Ludwig or Leedy, or any drum company (AFAIK). The head is post 1957. The hardware is early 20th Century. The hoop & guide posts remind me of Lyon & Healy. (The whole thing reminds me more of pots used by Banjo companies, Birdseye maple was usually a very thin veneer used as a finish. Slingerland banjos used this a lot.) ??

Very neat drum. Did a little bit of research.

Check these out:

http://leevinson.com/gear.html It is about 6 drums up from the bottom.

I also found this: http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=21694

Lastly, I just received Rob Cook's new Gretsch book. On page 158, there are pictures of snares from the early 20th century. One of the drums is called the "Single Header Orchestra." It looks like the drum was available from 1912-1915 and had a 14 inch maple shell. It resembles your drum and in the links above but not exactly like it. Looks like it features Duplex hardware.

I looked on drumarchive to see if there were any photos and the site looks like it is down right now. Good luck!

Check the strainer. It looks like there is some printing or date on it?

haha, just found this. Can't believe it. This looks a lot like the Gretsch I mentioned above.

Thanks for the help everyone.

No name on the strainer. Any idea of a value?

I know my "big four" values pretty well but this one has me stumped.

It is missing one little bolt to secure the strainer. I will find one today

and fix if so I can let you know how it sounds.
