Playing LESS...and the HHX crash cymbal

Loading...

It is very hard to play less. At my church gig I constantly find myself playing fills where there don't need to be any. So the next verse has no fill, and there is that breathing room-the air chamber. Just an observation.

Next are the crash cymbals being used by the drummer for Govt. Mule. They sound EXCELLENT. That crunchy, almost china-like tone is perfect for that situation. Quick decay, too. Sabian HHX. Are these similar to Zildjian A Customs? He has good technique... like Simon Kirke. What a fun gig that must be!

The HHX Line is supurb, But it also covers a lot of ground exactly which HHX are you asking about? I have never heard any that sound like the A custom line? They darker sounding the HHx line, I have owned almost the entire line of them.

I guess my question was more on the like are they MADE like A Customs. I don't care for the sound of A Customs at all. Seems like they are made to be hit as hard as possible, broken and sold on 3bay for $25. I don't know which model HHX was being used on the many Govt. Mule videos. But the sound is nice. And if it can be picked out from among the hundreds of different crash cymbals made as good sounding, that's something...

The HHX Line stands for Hand Hammered extreme. They are are comparable to the K custom line. But they are not really basher player cymbals. They have some heavy weight cymbals in this line. But are not like the Zcustoms from zildjian weight and purpose.

I picked up a 16" HHX extreme on my first visit to Music Go Round in Natick,MA. today. Traded an 18"AA China I NEVER use, a possible Ajaha 17 1/4" mongrel and a 15" 505 crash I bought new in 1982. plus $40. But I didn't play it cause its FREEZING in my geerage...and it was too late to start the heater.
