Pioneer shell question Last viewed: 8 hours ago

Hi,

Long time lurker here but not poster, more a reader and admirer.

I have a mid 30s L&L Pioneer deep shell, and when inspecting it recently I noticed a small fissure roughly 1/4" from the seam on the batter side, and about 1/4" long. It isn't into the bearing edge or the flange.

I can't see anything at all behind the rolled edge inside the shell, so it wouldn't appear to be a crack through the shell, but the question is whether the crack is in the shell or in the nickel plate. Is the plating thick enough to sport a visible crack? Or am I likely looking at something that will eventually grow, like with a cymbal.

Thanks, I think this is post #1. Have to start somewhere.
