Picked up some Ludwigs...new to vintage drums

Loading...

Hello everybody. I've been playing for a long time but have just recently became interested in vintage drums. I've had a few snares but this is my first full set. I believe they are from 1967 based off of the keystone badge with serial number 518084. I've put on all new Remo Weatherking heads. The ride cymbal came with the set. It is stamped Avedis Zildjian Co. Genuine Turkish Cymbal Made in U.S.A. I have no idea how much these are worth but they sure are cool. I've been playing them and they sound amazing.

I THINK some little known guy named Richard Starkey played that color back in the day......

That A Ride looks OLD! DON'T CLEAN IT PLEASE!

It looks kick arse as is!

Did you get the matching snare too?

I believe the cymbal is from around the same time period as the drums. The hi-hats have the same stamp but they are cracked. Unfortunately there was no snare with the set. Currently using a supraphonic.

Big easy - I have no idea what you paid for them, but that 69' blk oyster pearl kit will bring $1500. for the bass drum and toms alone - all day long. The brass increases the value dramatically.

BTW, the supraphonic is as 'at-home' natural behind that kit as a matched snare would be. Good choice for a snare for that kit. The toms really kick-a$$ don't they?

Congrats, great first vintage kit. You'll be hooked for sure from here out.

Welcome to the club!

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Great find! From a collector's standpoint, you have one of the most desirable Ludwig finishes. (And one of the prettiest, IMHO.)

What are the sizes? That bass looks like a 20".

Kits:
1950s Gretsch Name Band in Midnight Blue Pearl (13/16/22/14sn)
1965/66 Ludwig Club Dates rewrapped in Black Diamond Pearl (12/15/20)

20" bass drum, 13" tom, and 16" floor tom. I like the fact that they show the signs of use but aren't "beat up". The guy who owned these previously was a New Orleans drummer that played a lot around town. If only these drums could talk!
