Picked up a old engraved Ludwig Brass snare..... Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Loading...

Hey all, it has been quite a long time since I last posted. I have just been really busy. I still wanna finish restoring that red set I posted oh so long ago.

Anyways, I went out yesterday antique shopping and spotted this little number from a distance. I knew I had to have it no matter what it was. I don't have a old brass drum but I've always wanted. Imaging my surprise when I went up there and started looking at it and saw the Ludwig writing. Then I saw the Leedy and Ludwig head and that just made it cooler. Guy had NO idea what it was. Well me either...

So guys I need your help once again. What roundabout years would this be from? Is it REAL? What I am most curious about is value, however I do not plan on selling it. The condition is ehh...it has been used.

I have more questions but we will start with that.

More pics can be found this way.

Well in 26, 27, 28, and 29, the Deluxe didn`t have the floral pattern above the word Ludwig. In 30, they changed to that but had added a different throw lever too. In 32, they officially branded it a Black Beauty with the floral above the word but still the different throw arm.

So I`m gonna say late 29 BB when they were changing over. Start at 4 grand$$ and see what happens....you`ll get bites.

Members like Cooper and Corroto will be exact with you.

The rest of us seen these come and go,...but not often and usually gotten for peanuts making us jealous......

Nice catch, it looks all there and in very good condition. The trim finish is the Deluxe name. The gunmetal brass engraved was what they did to the shell.

Hey it's Oddball, I remember you!

I wish it was worth 4 grand or anywhere near that. That would be a great piece. :p

Anyways, the looks of the drum is absolutely fantastic. I love the pattern. It looks to be original and complete down to the screws. There are NO added screw holes. No dents or bends anywhere in the metal. Heck the strainer wires look ancient too...

What heads should I get for this? I would also like to replace the strainer wires as well. They are fine but I would feel much better if they were kept away safe. I'd actually like to use it pending price and rarity so if anyone else wants to add, please feel free.

I'd head straight back tomorrow morning & buy everything in the store! Does this guy have an internet connection or does he get all his Playboys the old fashioned way. Nice score!

You`ll get 4grand$$ for it or talked to 35 to a friend.

For head and wire selection. You wanna play it, put modern heads on it and modern snares but save the old one`s. You need to keep all of it original at a moments notice.

Selection is to your taste but you`ll see that the wires attach different on both ends. It will play different than it was designed for with modern heads and snare. Does it have a damper and light fixtures ?

No it has nothing else inside with no extra holes.

I don't know if I can sell it...I mean that is a decent amount of money but the drum is beautiful. I also personally think it looks better than the early 20s ones I've seen and the later 30s ones.

Course that is probably me now figuring out what I have....
