Phantom Sling Last viewed: 29 minutes ago

The kit that started this whole thing is back on the Bay, and the seller swears he's going to let it play out to the end (which is what he should have done in the first place). Chrome snare, pedals, and stands are NO LONGER included, just the Set-O-Matic holder and three FT legs.

This set looks to be in pretty good condition, probably a bit better than the one I acquired. But no complaints from my end: Mine plays great, looks superb from audience distance, and only cost $1,150 (including detailing after purchase), which was considerably less than the $2,000 neighborhood where this kit appeared to be headed.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I know what you meant ...

Not yet. I know I've been bad about this. I'm waiting to get another kit back so I can do a group photo. I hope that will be this weekend, but it might not be.

In the meantime, here's something to whet your appetite from a jam this past weekend. This is a rockin' young man who has expressed an interest in learning to play with others and our group was happy to accommodate him. Even though he's a rocker, he was deferential enough to the grownups that we had to ask him to play a bit louder.

I might stop using the Vistalite snare with these. It looks good, but it seems somewhat muffled compared to the Phantoms. I'm using the Pinstripe/Diplomat combination they came with, which sounds so good that I'm hesitant to eventually switch to clear Ambassador batters.

This was an afternoon event, and the drummer for the nighttime band (a hard-hitting metalist from the looks of things) expressed surprise when he saw that they weren't mic'ed up.

After sitting around $715 for most of the day, this kit began escalating with about five minutes left, and the winning bid of $1,431.76 (plus $99 shipping) was placed with about six seconds remaining.

If someone from here is the winner, congratulations, and let us know.

I anticipate posting photos of mine after the weekend.

Sounds like the move by the seller to end the original auction early cost him several hundred dollars. I guess the lure of easy money has a very strong appeal...........LoLoLoLo

He's selling the hardware separately, so he'll probably clear another two or three hundred. But he might have made more if he had let the first auction play out.

Here's another one that just got posted:

$2,500 BIN, $1,500 starting bid (too much, based on today's sale)

Pro: Includes Phantom snare

Con: 12" tom is disassembled and might be missing parts; bass drum hoops are missing inlays and/or are not original; bass drum claws appear to be Ludwig.

I Reluctantly put in a bid also with 5 minutes left, $999.99, I figured I would not be in the running, nice set though. If I didn't have so many kits I'd be more aggressive.

Belated response to several requests: Here are some photos of my Phantoms.

Refurbished by Steve Schmit of Riverside, California. He painted the hoops, cleaned up the chrome, removed rust, and did some edge work on the toms. There are several scratches around the kit, but they're only visible from up close.

I've discussed the sound of this kit in previous posts on this thread. Short version: s'wonderful.

I'm using a Vistalite snare with it. I'm not counting on ever finding a Phantom snare at a reasonable price. That doesn't really bother me, since they're eight-lug Zoomatics.
