Nice finish for collectability. They should end up in Japan though, seems like they belong there. What are those shells made from btw??....and good luck.

Thank you once more.

I can't say how many plies there are, 'cause this version is coated with a genuine light brownish/ beige so called 'Acousti-coat-sealer', that covers the sharp 45° bearing edges as well.

Your set looks good!

I almost aquired a similar set earlier in the year here in Kansas, but it had two more toms. Just couldn't get it worked out with the owner.

I'm interested in the interiors, as you mentioned some sort of interior finish... are you sure it isn't just the composite material shells Pearl used for a time on their Export series? Just thinking out-loud again...

Thanks,

Bill

Pearl actually only used composite (read: sawdust) on their lowest end studnet kits in the 1970's, generally sold as outfit "NC4". All wood Pearl kits from the late 1970's on are ply. The Acousticoat is just like Tama's Zolacoat, a quick and easy way to get the drums out the door without having to do finishing work on the porous and rough luan interior. EX's from this era were 9 ply luan/select hardwood.

Barjack is right. The wood grain is partly shining through. The coating covers the bearing edges as well, so we may trust what Barjack states conc. the number of plies.

Not a problem. I'm still learning when it comes to Pearls of the 80s era (and for that matter, still learning on my favorites -- 70s Pearl FG and W/FG drums).

I did have someone try to sell me what he thought was fiberglass shells once, when what he had was the low-end Exports of the "saw-dust" variety.... so, my "thinking-out-loud" was just a simple question for clarification purposes...

Thanks,

Bill

Ralf, LOVE that wrap!

I would love to have 'em, but I'm trying to restrain myself to a couple of 'nameplates' and Pearl isn't one of them (although some of what I have is made by Pearl). Also scared of shipping rates from you to me....probably as much as the drums!

I hope you find your buyer soon
