P-85 on an LM402 Grinding Last viewed: 7 hours ago

Loading...

I pulled out my LM402 just to change snare sounds and it needed a lot of adjustments.

One thing I noticed was when the snares were disengaged, throw off down,

(Black logo P-85) the bottom of the knurled adjustment knob rubs on the mounting bracket. Rather, it grinds on it. Like the knurled knob should have had a spacer to elevate it maybe 1/8".

Anyone else had this issue?

Makes it harder to adjust the snare tension with the friction and grinding.

Seems very wrong.

OK I just checked another P-85 on another drum. Same thing.

My older P-83's clear everything just fine.

I this a design flaw that everyone knows about but me?

Hi Scott!

Yeah man, sometimes happens... P85 is a "take it or leave it" stuff...Eye Ball

When it happens to me I usually put a simple expansion spring (You can buy it anywhere) between the knurled knob and the plate (that´s factory stuff but it´s sometimes missing on vintage models).

And, agree, P83 is much better than "the younger brother"

I hope it helps & Good luck!!

Thanks Heraldo.

I need to put a spacer under the knurled knob, but it looks like the threaded rod does not come out.

Keeper ring on lower section above threads.

Does the knob spin off, or is it pressed on?

Maybe a Mellenium?

Or just live with it.

Grinding sounds bad.

I have 7 of them. I just checked and they all do the same thing. I honestly never noticed it before.
