The badge is what caught my eye - I've never come across it other than after I picked this up someone on fb showed me one in his badge collection. I can't find it in any of the Gretsch books or catalogs.

I picked this up a few weeks ago. Didn't do much to it but clean it a bit and tucked some cheap(er) calfhide onto the original wood flesh-hoops. It's 1927 or maybe later to mid-30's 4" x a little over 14. The maple shell is beautiful. It has what appear to be the original snare wires and the throw-off is the first one Gretsch made in use from 1927 to 1936 from what I've read. The throw-off is amazing and is smooth as butter - it also has a strainer knob on the top.

There are some holes in the hoops and a gouge in the batter hoop - these look like they could have been something to do with marching hardware - not sure though.

Nice. I wonder if this has any relevance to the issue of Gretsch natural maple finish being offered....before it was offered. Or maybe this example is excluded, being from the 20s/30s...

DTF - yes, good point regarding the 'natural maple finish'.

Mark - I'm enjoying this snare lots. I set my red sparkle 54 Gretsch kit up last night and I'm going to see how this snare works - just for the fun of it all. It sounds amazing with the snare off - a deep mellow woody tom tone. I like the wood hoops too.

That's a very early snare stand here - 1909, maybe a bit later. still working fine.

I've never put a sound file up on the Forum - or at least that I can remember. I might try that a bit later.
