Old Duplex Snare Last viewed: 17 hours ago

I've got what I believe to be a 1920's nickel over brass (mostly brass now...) Duplex snare. There are no markings other than the Duplex stamp on the strainer. One of these days I'll get around to working on it.

I wish I knew the secret to replacing the original wires. I worked on a Leedy & Strupe snare with the same round wires and I don't thing they're on tight enough. Or maybe they sound loose inherently.

Hey, thanks Gary for the welcome and info.

My duplex strainer does not have a stamp for the record...

Cool info. Yes, mine is stamped Duplex and the patent date is (I think) 1918, which I used for my ca. 1925 guess. Note that I replaced all my hoop-clips with modern ones after 2 of the original brass clips cracked and broke. I kept what was left of the old ones, and then did the same to my '30s Ludwig and Ludwig out of caution...

There is some Duplex history being said here. In one day I`ve seen more about Duplex than all my life.

red66, Those wound olde wires are a bit mushy sounding.

OddBall, Cool!

Myrtle, That would add up that it isn't marked either. Cool.

Looks pretty much like my Duplex that is aluminum. Gotta get on a plane soon. Date is hard on these but late 20's early 30's safe. Very nice rifle crack sound. Rogers clips look the same and are a bit more heavy duty.

Mine, Ludwig snare resso is the only one that fits. Batter anything.

Fine drum!!

The bare shell seems way to heavy to be aluminum, thus I thought it maybe was brass. This drum is quite heavy for its size and is soldered in various places inside where the two piece shell bead was put together.

Nopork, yours, like mine, is brass. Duplex DID do a lot with aluminum in the 30s though. I've seen some pretty weird Duplexes.
