Old drums, new owner

Hey all,

found this forum on my quest for the holy grail- I mean, vintage drums.

Anyways, I recently purchased these drums to help complete a Ludwig Red Sparkle B/O kit I'm putting together.

Here's the album. http://imgur.com/a/eUI5x#0

By the way, I'm seeking out another Ludwig red sparkle B/O tom if anyone has a spare lying around.

I'm looking forward to sticking around on this forum.

Looks like a club date bass drum and classic toms. That cymbal stand appears to be a 1400 flat base stand with a plastic 70's T handle screw. Not a standard.

Thanks for the correction, I'm still learning.

How do you tell the model of them?

Mainly by the hardware.

Club Dates had single, center mounted lugs.

Standards had a different badge.

I'm no expert. Kleening

Just saying hello. Welcome

That is correct. The bass is a Club Date. They'll blend fine. Same shells, just different hardware. Some people, myself included, think the. CD's are a little more open sounding, due to less hardware on them. Just sold a set of them that sounded really good.

It would have had a rail, originally. And, that is the factory spot for the cymbal stand. I've never gotten a cymbal where I want it with that mount. I cut a short piece of rod, and mount a cowbell there! YMMV......

Cool, I'll definitely check it out for future reference.

So, I'm hearing a slight buzz in the 13" like a nut or something it loose, possibly the lug? Is that a common occurrence?

Check the lug screws. If that isn't it, could be a spring in a lug buzzing. Reseat it, and if you want to really do it right, either wrap the spring with felt, or put a piece of cotton in the lug before the spring. Common practice for some studio guys to do all of the lugs, to prevent buzzing on recording.....

Alright, I'll look into that.
