slightly OT, but I know you guys and gals love the vintage stuff. I have been on the lookout for a nice marimba for years and finally this one popped up in an estate sale. This is a Deagan 52C 3.5 octave Marimba with rosewood bars. Manufactured in Chicago, late 30s. In excellent unrestored condition, has had one owner (before me) its whole life. Original and complete. It plays wonderfully but the 80 year old bars need a little attention so I've sent them off to california for an expert tuning. While the bars are away I'll go through and do a light restoration on the racks, rubber and nickel plated stuff. I usually fix and flip the vintage drums I come across but this baby is staying put. The overall build and quality of this instrument is amazing. Truly made to last.

Thank you!

Those are great instruments! Hope you really enjoy it. How much does the tuning run you?

Deagan Vibes were considered top notch quality back in the day.

I am sure the Marimbas are the same.

Looks great.

Thanks for the kind words all - tuning costs basic rate is 60 bucks / octave, more if bars need refinishing or replacement. These are all good with about 8 or so having a few stains which can be made presentable without a refinish.

Very nice instrument you have there ! I used to play marimba during my first year in high school band..

Had a hard time reading music, but had a "great ear" according to my very passionate music teacher, who was just a little high strung.. When i learned how to play the theme to "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom"by ear, he both laughed and was furious at the same time, telling me, and i quote-- "Yes Roberto, of course you know how to play that, because you can be an "aneemale" ("animal" spoken in a thick Italian accent ;))sometimes"..

LOL ! Good times..
