Newbie w/ '59/60 WMP Ludwig Super Classic Last viewed: 1 minute ago

Hello All,

First time poster here. I was fortunate to run across a very good deal on a WMP Ludwig Super Classic outfit earlier this year. The 22" bass drum has a red stamp showing November of 1959. And the 16" Floor has an April 1960. I can't find a stamp on the 13 x 9 top tom....buy I'm assuming it's from the same kit. There have been what appears to be some modification/upgrade...or whatever to the bass shell and tom in the form of bracket changes...but all previous holes have been professionally filled with flush nice smooth round chrome bolts. The tom holder is very different. Have never seen one like it before. I'll attach pics as soon as I can figure that out.

Good to be here and hope to chat soon with fellow classic Ludwig folk. ;)

Hi and welcome to the forum. It sounds like you may have a set that has different badges on the drums.Unfortunately modifying the drums in any way from original condition, kind of removes then from collectable status, and puts then in the player catagory. What some people think are upgrades to vintage drums, are in fact, downgrades.

Here's a pic (I hope it attaches) of the changes the previous owner did. Yes, I realize it has been altered from the original. However, it's a very clean job, and no, I don't intend to do anything else to this nice old classic except play it....because it sounds awesome. The angled super classic cut on the bearing edges are original and smooth all around. It's perfect for a new country/rockabilly band I'm in now that plays to a medium sized lounge.

Hi Steve thanks for your candid response. However, not sure how you got that I have different badges. ;) At any rate, the obvious changes are related only to the Tom fitting and mount. All else appears to be late '59/early'60.

Does any one know what type fitting they did on this? I've never seen it. Thanks again.
