Hello all...been reading and learning on this site for some time now, thought I would chime in now. Man, you all have the knowledge. I'm a vintage Ludwig guy and thought I knew quite a bit about them, untill I found this site. I love it. O.K...my question is this, I picked up a set at a local music store the other day with no badges, had the beaver tail lugs, so I was leaning towards Slingerland maybe Pearl. I don't think it is that old, perhaps 80's. It has re-rings and granitone interior(gray speckled) I read here that the granitone was used to cover up certain materials, poor wood etc. (lower end stuff) O.K. really, my question. Are there other companys that used the gray specs besides Ludwig. I'll figure out how to post pics. and get them on here so perhaps you all can see what it is. Also, a 10 lug kick drum. Thank you so much and hope to make some new friends here.
New member and I have a question. Last viewed: 11 hours ago
Joe , Welcome to the VDF, ludwig didn't have beavertail lugs, slingerland, leedy and rogers did. but not ludwig also, ganitone paint wasn't used to cover up any blems or such, drums with sliver paint would of been ludwig. gretsch, rogers, post the pics will help the forum get to the bottom of your question, getting back to ludwig painting the Interior was from customer complaints stating the bare Interiors looked cheap so hence the white resocoat paint and then the granitone paint, how can mahogany or maple look cheap? kinda of prejudice about these things!: one last note the ludwig rocker 2 shells had a thick brownish speckled lud-cote painted interior also.Snow Flake:
Pictures speak volumes...
Here is a pic. of the mystery drum. Took me forever to figure out how to do this, not the sharpest knife in the drawer sometimes. Thank you...Joe
Joe, Don't be so hard on yourself, it took me a few tries before I figured it out also! that is not ludwig, looks to be an Import, when you can post more pics of the drum.
