New Ludwig Club Dates Last viewed: 16 hours ago

I was up at Columbus Pro Percussion today, and they had a new Ludwig Club Date in Silver Sparkle finish. 12/14/20 with a 5.5" x 14" snare. Looked awesome!!

The classic "Bowtie" lugs and the long tension rods. Certainly more modern looking than the originals of course, but that is to be expected. They come with coated heads made by Evans with the Ludwig name on them. The wrap looked really good.

I really like the fact that it has a rail mount, but it seems pretty big and bulky to me. It's weird to see a rail mount being used in conjuction with a suspension mount. It takes away the "simple-ness" of the rail mount to me. And the bass drum spurs??? Really???? They look very chincy. I realize that those may have resembled the original spurs, but they have "modern-ed up" the rest of the kit, why not the spurs?

Overall, a very cool looking kit, and they sounded pretty good too. Best of all, it's a pretty decent value at $899.

I'll be going back up there towards the end of the week to pick up some repair work that I dropped off. If anyone is interested, I can snap a few photos.

Thanks,

V

It's an import kit. Just hard to raise the head around an import Ludwig kit. Seems wrong somehow.

I have only seen pics, but I think Lud got it right on these things,

I liked the spurs, they looked vintage and a lot like the orig gull wings.

They offer 18,20, and 22 trad depth BD's so you can get a trad depth kit,or jazz, bop or rock kit for in the 800.00 range.

If you don't like the mount or vibra band easy enough to remove either and put the tom on a stand, the Bd hoop is in laid but nat finish maple, easy enough to spray paint black if you want a more vintage look.

I've been eyeballing the Guitar Center "special edition" Blue Oyster kit, but I have been deterred by the quality and the overall reviews I've read. I haven't played one yet but I have watched a few demos and they sound good... Someone said they're the same shells as the Element (I think).

I'd almost be more apt to go with the Gretsch Catalina Club Jazz kit... Those sound nice for the money...

If they were made in Amerika and time was taken to make everything just right.I would say YES. But made in China, fast ,with a gun to your head,I would have to pass.Just my opinion,if you want Vintage, buy Vintage, you know what you are getting. How well are these new clubdates going to hold up?. How will they look in 50 years??
