Need some Acrolite help please..... Last viewed: 1 day ago

Just bought a 70 Acro for my 11 year old son. He's pretty excited to be getting something vintage that he's going to be able to not only play, but also show off to his friends and such. I plan on replacing the heads and the snare strands when I get it in on Tuesday, and I was wondering if any Acro owners might have some suggestions on what heads I should get for this particular drum? I was thinking about an Ambassador Vintage for the batter, but not sure about the bottom. Also, any suggestions on a good match on the snare strand would be helpful too. Thanks in advance.

welcome to the forum!

i own a handful or so of acros. for me personally, i like to use a ludwig medium head up top or a remo coated ambassador. on the snare side, i usually try to find a ludwig head. they really sound great. i like nice tight tuning on the snare side and medium on the batter. sounds just right to my ears. these are great drums! good luck.

if the original ones are not completely stuffed then keep them, I reckon. They'll sound fine.

the original acro snare wires are some of the best i think. even if they are bent a bit, they usually straighten out just fine when tensioned. if one or two wires are busted, you can clip them at the end and use them as well. any wires are gonna sound nice on that drum. its the same exact shell as the top of the line supraphonic. just no chrome and two less lugs.
