Need clam shell strainer for late '50's Radio King Snare

Loading...

I've got a late 50's Slingerland Radio King snare that is currently operating with a vintage Ludwig strainer and butt end. I'd love to find an original clam shell strainer for the snare so it can be put back to original. I would certainly trade the vintage Ludwig strainer and butt end for one!

I'm certainly no expert on Slingerland. I just have been lucky to find a few snares (as far as kits go have always been a vintage Ludwig nut), but get the impression that the clam shell strainers did not hold up. Is that impression correct? It seems that every Slingy snare that I have or had has had it's original strainer replaced. Last night while I was cleaning up and putting back together this late 50's Radio King with its replaced vintage Luddy strainer, I realized that those Luddys were pretty much bullet-proof. I don't recall ever having a lick of trouble with any of them pre-mid-seventies. On the flip side, this Radio King is the first vintage Slingerland that I have found to still have its stick-saver hoops, and I must say that it is hand-down my new favorite snare. It is an absolute joy to play! With its single-ply shell combined with the stick-saver hoops, it's one heavy mutha!
