Need advise...Slingerland Last viewed: 1 day ago

Hi Guys,

Needing some advise from experienced collectors and vintage experts.

I saw a set of Slingerland Radio Kings, ( 1955), in EBay, 4 piece, white pearl. asking price $1899. I have, however, a 1973 copper over wood, good shape, 10,12,14,16,20, 24, 6.5 x14. There may be a possible trade involved. What do you guys think, good trade ?

The radio king kit are you getting a solid shell rk snare drum?

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

From Iamdrummer

I think so, I saw it on EBay today.

I would only do the trade for a solid shell rk snare drum in the kit, other wise the other drums of that time period are just normal 3 ply slingerland shells.

Thanks, I went back and looked at them again, seems as though the snare is missing some parts. I wrote the seller to advise. I do have a problem giving up my copper over wood, they are very special ( looks, sound, feel ), as you probably can understand. Thanks for the advise.

I would keep the copper set. In good shape much harder to replace than finding a 55 WMP. Best wishes on whatever you do.

Nothing special here but I like them.

The RK's look nice. Only things I see missing from the snare are the strainer handle and original snare wires with metal tabs. I could have missed something but what else did you see that was missing? Looks like a solid maple shell snare. And ad states the snare is maple. If you both are close to each other might be good to check out each others stuff first. Tough call on the trade but it's really up to you what you want. If your copper drums are special to you there's nothing wrong with having 2 drum sets. If you can't afford the RK's outright now save up for a set. There's always nice kits up for sale.

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Thanks Glenn and Creighton,

I looked and wrote the seller, He is not wanted to trade, he told me he needed the money. I am torn about trading my copper over wood set. I wanted these since I was in my early 20,s, and finally got a set, I really like the RK, but I really want to find a 1951 set, ( year I was born ) maybe crazy, but cool. Also, mama would have my head, buying other sets, but I'll look around WNC, there out there...Thanks again, Bucky

Going to go against the others here, I would trade for the RKs all day long.

Me, too. I think the demand for nice original Radio King drums is far greater than for 1970's copper over wood drums any day.
