Mystery floor tom, or rather its lugs.. Last viewed: 5 hours ago

Loading...

Hi all.

I recently purchased a drumset that belonged to an old jazz playing gentleman until he passed away. It's a collection of random pieces from the 60´s and 70's. Gretsch snare, premier rack tom, a George Hayman bass drum and a floor tom that I haven't been able to identify.

If all goes well there should be a photograph of one of the lugs and a leg bracket at the bottom. Hopefully someone has seen something similar :)

Can't say about the leg mount but the lug looks like Ludwig.

The lug looks similar to a Ludwig classic, but it's not.The floor tom leg bracket, looks 70's early 80's Tama, but it too is a little different.

I don't know,still looking.

The floor tom mount looks like it might be a Pearl.

Barry is right, looks like a Pearl mount and the lug is copy/knock-off of a Ludwig Classic. I think the floor tom is likely an MIJ knock-off. Fastest way to tell is; look inside the drum. If the grain runs vertical (up and down from bearing edge to bearing edge,) then it's MIJ.

BTW, I love the nickname, but you should have gone the 'Whole-Calloway' and used; Reeferman! I still like 'Reefer' though.

Always have. :D

Welcome to VDF!

Yeah, some kind of knockoff for sure, the hardware doesn't feel quite as good and heavy as the more known brands. But ir would sure be nice to know who made this thing :) also it sounds very nice when assembled.

As far as the grain goes; there seems to be a coating of some sort inside the drum, I'll put up a picture of it later. Due to the coating being there it's hard to tell what way the grain is going but I'll investigate.

Coating? You mean paint? What color? White? Grey/speckled?

Took some pictures of the shell, here they are. As you can see there is somekind of coating on the inside. The wrap was completely destroyed so it had to come off, hence the glue stains.

Pearl has a coating like that inside. Come to think of it I have two pearl toms in my shop with the same coating.
