Mystery Drum...any idea what this is? Last viewed: 19 hours ago

Hello, all! This is my first post here on the forums. I am excited to get to explore this community and learn a lot!

I'm hoping you guys can help me identify a drum that I picked up today from an antique shop. The shop owner mentioned that the previous owner told him he bought it in Frankfurt, Germany. It's a 13x5, 6-lug wood drum with gold sparkle wrap. There is no apparent writing, badge, or identification of any kind outside or inside the drum. The interior is a natural wooden finish. After some research, my father and I discovered this drum's strainer and lugs on other 60's Sonor drums. The drum has an internal muffler. And very uniquely, the lugs only tighten from the top hoop -- tension on the bottom head cannot be adjusted, as one lug connects both hoops. As such the shell just sort of floats in between the two. The drum also came with a strap of some kind (pictured below).

We also posted this drum on the Sonor Museum forums, where it was suggested that this shared a resmblance to the Sonor freefloating drum from the 70's, though those were only made in metal.

Here is a link to my photobucket album with some pics of the drum: http://s584.photobucket.com/user/PinesofRome/library/Mystery%20Drum

Any ideas would be super appreciated!

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

No that's not me. This is not the drum on CL.

This drum was in an antique shop. My son found it. He actually bought it. The owner of shop said it had been there like 4 years, and the original guy that brought it in had bought it in Frankfurt, Germany. I thought it was a Sonor, the slotted lugs - and that same strainer is on some 60s Sonor drums.

But then I remembered reading that Sonor actually used some other companies parts when they were getting started in W. Germany, so I figured that some of those parts had to come from stock of other nearby German drum companies.

Then bam, there it was in Tromsa katalog!
