My Ludwig Educators

Had some time to goof off today so thought I would get the Educators set up and take some pics. These are kind of rare so I have been told by a very reliable source. Picked these up a couple summers ago, have never played them due to the lugs are plastic and Im afraid I will break them. This was Ludwigs attempt to compete with the MIJ narket backin the 70's, please correct me if I am wrong. The maple cortex wrap, along wit the rest of the kit, is in very good condition. Notice the really long floor tom leggs,lol! Sorry for those who have allready seen these, I just wanted to post again for the newbies. I was thinking about posting a pic in the drum gallery due to the fact there are very few of these around.

So, you got rare drums you dont play? What is the rarests drum you own, lets see it please.

By the way, that snare is my down beat that my daughter gave me fo Christmas two years ago. I put it with the kit because the yellowed WMP goes good with the fake maple wrap.

that's is a beautiful kit jeff. it is very,very uncommon.

ive got a set of late 70's Ludwig blue vistalite combos. mine still had the original plastic lugs. ive also got a black Ludwig combo snare drum with original plastic lugs as well.

on the vistalite kit, I put my original lugs up and bought period correct classic lugs a little at a time. when I had enough to complete the kit, I changed them out. this way I could tune the drums properly and play 'em. its your call of course. the regular jazz festival and pioneer snare lugs should work on your drums. I would consider if they would leave impressions however. super nice kit! didn't know you had 'em.

very cool Jeff very cool, the plastic sucks its so aged i would not trust them either

Jeff those are very cool. I never saw them or even heard of them before. Plastic lugs too......interesting. She's a beauty though!

it wasn't the regular vistalite line, just the combo line from 78-80. they used same shells as vistalites but were concert toms and have different badges. they started out with the plastic lugs and later changed them to the metals lugs as they were all breaking.

a forum member at dfo actually bought an acrolite that had plastic lugs. ive never seen another. he trashed the lugs before I could get a peak at them.

Jon Bermuda Schwartz has a set of educator drums as well. if you ever decide to sell yours, drop me a line please sir...

Thanks Mike, and ya , I have seen Bermuda's. He has the snare drum with his. I doubt I would ever find the snare for mine but it is a fun challenge to take on. Thank you for your interest in buying my drums but you are officially 2nd in line, Fishwalts has first stab at them. Gee, it sounds like I want to sell them, huh! Well I dont, not today anyway.

So besides Bermuda and myself, do you know of anyone else that has a set of Educators?

PLASTIC lugs? Wow, I never knew that, and I've been a Ludwig man since '76. I wonder if I've ever played a kit with them and didn't know it? How long would they hold up on, say a one-player "house-kit"? Makes me think of those "Boron/plastic Fender bass tuning heads they brought out a few years, ago.
