Well it was not the easiest eBay purchase for me but I dug in and did not let this one get away. It's my Christmas presant to myself.

It will look nice with my (similar finish) LangPercussion Gladstone snare drum in and amoungst my late 50's Gold Sparkle Gretsch kit.

Mr.Lud

Yes I paid a lot for the drum....but I'm old and senile and life is short - it's only money. Sorry, what were we talking about???

All kidding aside. I look at it this way:

I bought a new 3pc Gretsch USA Custom shellpack this year. The 812 tom was almost $1100 (MSRP) and I bought the 3pc for $3700 +.

This eBay Gretsch 9x13 tom in Cadillac Green with what I'm pretty sure is Gold hardware is a rare sought after drum. So I think this drum is at least as valuable or even more so than my 812 USA Custom in Champagne Sparkle.

Looking at it in these terms it's not a bad price for some very fine USA drum history - don't you think?

Congrats Kona. I was looking at that drum on eBay. Cool that you got it. It's too bad Gretsch doesn't make them anymore. That is a super classy finish and theme. I wish I was a Gretsch endorser because I would ask them to make me a kit in that finish.

Yamaha Cherry Wood Recording Custom 1987/2005 8/10/12/13/14/16/22

Thanks guys. To use a fellow drummer's phrase "I had to pull like a pittbull" to land this one. I'm very happy to have one it. It's going to a good home here because I am a huge Gretsch fan and there is no one - I think - that will appreciate this drum more that I.

drummingbulldog:

Gretsch endorser Stephen Ferrone has the 1955 Cadillac Green (lacquer finish) drums. Ya - it would be nice if they were offered again in the regular Custom USA lineup not just the 'Signature' series.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I guess that is true. I guess I was looking it it like a lot. In reality a kit costs a lot so for that single drum its not to bad. Its a cool drum and while I am not fond of the gold plating it looks kinda cool.
