Hey Guys,
I was going to buy a cymbal, but came home with a cymbal and a snare.
I bought a Gretsch Round Snare I think 14*5 in Blue Sparkle (fits my Blue Ludwig Mach 4 kit :D )
The snare is original, except the under hoop and the snarebed. Now there is some ****ty snarebed and a normal diecast hoop on the resonant side.
I never expected to buy a Gretsch and was never interested in one, and also didn't know anything about it. I just bought it because it sounded good and the colour fit my kit (I know, that is lame... :))
So it's a 6 ply. Sounds WARM, great attack, veery funky, I looooove it!!!! The strainer works but is kind of ****ty.....snares on and off doesn't work very well, and with lots of rimshots the snares might loosen up. So ok, but somehow not perfect if you have to switch from snares on and off. Does someone know any solutions for this problem? Thanks!
Then the snarebed is veeeery deep on one side, it's crazy.....almost impossible to tighten the reso head on one side only. Is this normal?
I'm thinking to put Noble and Cooley snares on it. You think that might be good, or do you suggest something else?
For batter side it's easy to fit a Remo head (lucky :) ), the reso head is very tight...so I might have to put there a Aquarian I guess?? Or does the new Evans heads also work? I'm very happy I can keep a Remo on the batter side!
I payed around 250euro.....what do you think. Was that an ok deal?
If someone know for the couple of problems I mentioned would be great!!!
Thanks a lot!!
