Modern flat based vintage style hardware Last viewed: 12 hours ago

Hi,

wondering if anyone can suggest some new lat based vintage style hardware. I'm tired of lugging my 90's era Pearl and Yamaha double braced stuff around. Very reliable, but I simply do not need the bulkiness! Plus, I like how the flat based stand can to fit around the drums and other stands versus the typical tripod style.

Thanks in advance!

I like the Gibraltar more than the DW version. In addition to being cheaper than the others their legs will fold down more than just flat, which means if you need their legs to overlap or position your stands close to mic stands or the like you can. I haven't tried the Ludwig stands, they seem nice but Gibraltar is just more bang for the buck.

Check out the DW Ultra Light Stands. Super light and compact!

http://www.dwdrums.com/hardware/6000/hardware.asp (Scroll down to get to it).

The thing I like about this stand as opposed to the "regular DW 6000" and the Gibraltar, Dixon etc. flat base stands is that the legs are much shorter. The legs are too long on the modern flat base stuff. I would end up cutting them down to the same length as the old Ludwig 1400's. It's tricky on the Gibraltar's, because the leg and rubber foot has a slight curve to it. These new ultra lights have shorter legs but are still just as stable as a Ludwig 1400.

Also, they are truly light weight. The Gibraltar flat base stand is the same weight (or even a little heavier) as my single braced Yamaha 600 series.

Best of all, $59.99, that's a decent price; just as cheap as the Gibraltar and less than the regular DW 6000 and Canopus, Dixon. Sadly, also cheaper than used 1400's as well.

Just my 1.5 cents (inflation adjusted).

I own flat base cymbal stands from Canopus, Gibraltar and pre-Atlas Ludwig. My preference in order are the Pre-Atlas Ludwig, followed by the Canopus and then the Gibraltar.

The Ludwig is very lightweight, I have used rides as large as 22" with no issues on these and they have a toothed tilter. I own 5 of these and they are in my main gigging hardware package

The Canopus are very lightweight and sturdy , they have a toothed tilter as well. I have only had these for a few months, but so far no issues whatsoever to report. They were more than double the price of the pre-Atlas flat base stands.

The Gibraltar are probably double the weight of either of the Ludwig or Canopus stands. They have a much wider footprint. Nice tilter and they are available in straight or boom. They are also less expensive than the Canopus.

The current DW 6000 series flat base are very nice but more money than any of the aforementioned stands. The new DW ultralight flat base stands look like a winner.
