Hey Fellas...anyone ever come across this situation with a satin flame wrap and successfully fixed it? Looks like a white backing film came off in blotches on the rack tom. my first instinct was to spray it white (tested a small strip) and it did nothing. I'm wondering if I roll some white paint on to get into the crevices? Will that actually ruin the wrap? Any tips out there or am I to live with the rack tom like this forever?

My inclination would be to first get the stuff that's on there, off. Then you have a clean slate. Tests of small areas would be required to see what works without damaging...

Hey Mitch...I thought about that also. The white "stuff" that's on there is actually solid and what appears to be dark is kinda transparent. I guess if I go either way, it will be fine if it is consistent. Just don't know if it will match the other drums if I strip it off. Decisions, decisions. Better take a look at the floor tom or snare next to find out how to proceed. Keep them suggestions coming!

Thanks,

Aaron

Looking at your 3rd pic above [against the light], the white backing seems 100% opaque, so your test with white paint should look the same when held up to the same light source, total blackout. Probably you just need a 100% opaque white spray paint [fast-drying!], they're not all the same.... I can't imagine rolling would be more invasive than modern spray paint...

The upside is, even if you can't do anything the drums will still be really cool!

So...I decided that there was nothing I could do in regard to the blotchiness of the wrap on the rack tom (and snare). I just cleaned and polished every piece on the kit and I think it came out pretty ok! The floor tom is definitely the cleanest drum out of the bunch...then the bass drum...then the rack and snare. Any blemishes are just part of the mojo of this all-original kit. Had some used Remo Vintage A heads on hand for the rack and floor tom batters with coated Ambassadors resos. Coated Ambassador on snare and original Remo heads on the bass drum. This little kit sure sounds good! I'll be playing it for a while and will most likely hold onto it, unless someone gives me an offer I can't refuse! Thanks for all of the replies/input so far.
