MIJ 70's Thicker Shell 4 piece 12/13/16/20 Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Hello. I never got around to these, and I am up to my eyeballs in current restos, so I'm giving these a new home.

They are MIJ (Probably Star made-Slingerland Copy lugs) and have the thicker shells with gray painted interiors. Someone (not me) painted over the wrap with flat black paint. It looks like the drums used to be Blue Sparkle?? (see the last pic in the next post). Anyway, who ever did it, did a good job, as the finish is even and there is no black paint in the interiors or on the bearing edges. See Picture 3 of the bass and floor tom together, you can see black paint above and beyond the top of the wrap.

These drums will need a thorough cleaning, but are structurally and functionally in good condition. There is some rust and pitting, but nothing too major. All the parts are there and work, except the floor tom is missing tension rods and legs. Rack and floor toms have internal tone controls. There is a cymbal bracket on the bass drum, but no L-arm (not sure why you would need one with a double tom set up anyway). The two "thumb" mounts (the part the tom bracket slides onto) on each rail are loose, so those will need to be tightened up (a little JB Weld, perhaps)? The two spur bracket wing screws are not original and the wing screw on the cymbal bracket is not original. Some of the nuts and screws on the rail mount have been replaced-but everything works ok as is. I did not take the heads off the two rack toms to check the interiors (heads are coated), but there is no external damage at all so I assume that the interiors for those two toms are both fine.

The painted black wrap is in good condition for the most part, and the parts that are not could easily be touched up, so you can either strip them all or leave them as is. I think it's kind of cool; because as common as black kits are, you never see a flat black wrap.

$100 plus shipping.

Thanks,

V
