Lugwig Club Date Red Sparkle - What to do

Loading...

Guys,

I am new to the forum and was poking around the history but I am still not sure what to do. I have a Lugwig Club Date set that I need to sell. I really don't want to deal with shipping. I live North of Houston Texas in Montgomery. Also, I don't know how to judge the condition. The set was not used much at all and has been sitting in a closet for the last 35 years.

20" Bass Drum, SN: 332858, Sep 7 1968 date stamp

14" Floor Tim, SN: 466225, March 24 1969

12" Tom, SN: 542233, Oct 31, 1967

CB700 Hi Hat 13" made in Italy (maybe 1978?)

Zildjian 16" medium ride (maybe 1978)

Ludwig Throne also from the late 70s

The red sparkle is in pretty good shape. The inlay on the base drum was starting to come off and I put a dab of super glue to keep it on. The hardware is all original and has minor oxidation. I have done nothing to the set other then wipe off the dust.

How is the best way to sell the kit and how do I set a price?

Thanks,

Chris

First, these are very desirable drums, especially a matching kit, which yours appears to be. Although not one of the rare colors, wonderful sounding drums. Frankly, I would take a set of these over anything new on the market today!

Selling without shipping limits your market, but it can be done. The right buyer may drive a day to pick these up if the deal can be made. I've driven 6 hours one way to pick up a kit!

Now, the selling; of course you can list the here in the FS section, that's a given. Then there is Craigslist, but you have to weed out all the phishing scams. There are also groups on Facebook instrument related where you can list them.

You may even get a PM from this post! Never know.

Look on eBay SOLD listings for what these are going for, that will give you an idea on price. If I was buying them, I would be in the $700-850 range, since they need a little work and probably new heads.

Good luck!

Pop 'em on Craigslist with up to 24 photos that are clear, well-lit, and give a good idea about condition of : wrap, hardware, noting any especially obvious wear. Start at $1000 but be open to offers.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Guys, Thanks for the feed back. FYI, here are some more pics. I will look through the ebay sold items and try to set a price then post on the FS section. Again, thanks for the help.

FYI, there is some separation starting on the inside. This did not jump out at me during my inspection / cleaning. I am too use to old furniture not old drums. You can see it in one of the pics. Thanks.

That bit of separation is nothing major, but will decrease the value a bit.

It can be fixed, by someone who knows what they're doing of course.

The wrap looks flawless though, and that'll help with a decent sale price.

Like Hobbs said, start with $1000 and be open to offers.. Btw, don't accept anything

less than $800.. In my neck of the woods , these drums would easily go for $1000.

Not too many vintage Club Dates left in Canada..

Nice drums and the sizes are desirable to many.

I agree with others on looking at ebay's sold items for a general idea of their market value.

As a buyer, my point of view is that a street price would be 15% to 20% less than ebay's prices to account for the ebay fees, paypal fees, shipping charges and handling expenses that would otherwise be charged to the seller.
