Ludwig Super Sensitive Hardware Question Last viewed: 6 days ago

Loading...

I’ve recently picked up a nice condition 1967 Ludwig Super Sensitive snare and have a few questions:

I appear to be missing a piece on the throw side. There is a hole at the top of the throw off lever which looks like it should have a post or something to stop the lever from travelling to far. I have circled in red what I am referring to in the attached (stolen off the web) picture. It is the top circle. Can anyone provide a detailed picture or description of what should be there?

As well, the bottom red circle shows a screw passing through the plastic slide portion. Is there a nut or any washers associated with this screw? Mine screw appears to be left floating and lightly threaded into/through the plastic. There is some play/movement at this point as well.

One more thing – the drum has the original snare wires (18 wires though 3 are broken). Should I replace this with a puresound set or keep them on?

If anyone could provide any information, it would be most appreciated…

Many thanks!

The piece of steel bent at 90 degrees on the leaver that you have circled in red stops it from over travelling. My SS is a 1976 and doesn't have a hole in the leaver. In regard to your second question mine is the same as your's. The bolt just threads into the plastic. I bought my SS new and thats the way it came. I would keep the original snare wires. Ludwig still make snares that will fit your SS, their made in Taiwan. Welcome

Mine has a bushing that fits into the plastic part and the bolt goes through it.

That avoids the plastic being chewed up by the threads.

No amount of planning will ever replace dumb luck.

Not entirely true. They do still carry snare wires for the super-sensitive snare drums, but they are for the 1969 and newer style throw-offs. They no longer carry the wires for the 1968 and earlier supersensitives. In order to get new snares to fit, your only option is Puresound.
