lol sorry guys - i promise i'm not trying to be a smartarse or anything. but check it, i attached a thumbnail illustrating what i'm talking about.

Also - if you use the logic that the "Ludwig 1960's Serial Number Time Chart #1"

those serial numbers start in 1964. the Ludwig Standard line didn't start until around 1968. so therefore, that serial number chart can't be talking about the Ludwig Standard line...right?

or am i mistaken?

I believe your right that it did start in 68 but I have a friend that has a standard set that is stamped earlier than 68 by a few years. I can't remember what year but I just remember thinking it must be a prototype of some sort.

My Standard kit had 20 lugs on the bass drum. I'm pretty sure all the 22's did and the 20's had 16, just like the Classics.

Also, people have been talking about the differences between the super classics and standards, and some people say that the shells are the same, just the hardware, the badge and the wrap are different. Thats true - BUT, i'm not sure if everyone knows this, but on the super classics, the bass drums were drilled for 20 lugs, whereas the bass drums on the standards were only drilled for 16 lugs.but yeah - most importantly PLEASE put up the serial numbers on your Ludwig Standards, as well as the date stamps!!!

No, the Standard bass drums are not drilled for a different lug count. The 22" have twenty lugs, the 20" have sixteen. At least in the original runs, from the late sixties. This could be true about the later ones.

The kit I have is a good example of the shell swapping Ludwig did. The snare and one rack tom have the classic white painted interiors. The rest are the normal Ludwig Standard granitone paint. This proves they just grabbed the shells and wrapped them in LS wrap and applied the LS hardware.

Poppy79424 had a very informative series of posts about converting Standards to Classics here:

http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=17593

While his post detailed the conversion, it also gave a very detailed explanation of the differences in the two models of drums. I think these were early runs of the Standard line as well.

I think I sent the serial numbers on mine in to the forum already, but I didn't ever check to see if they got posted anywhere. See mine by clicking on the link in my sig.

I'll dig out the numbers and date stamps and post them here over the next couple of days.

I have enjoyed all the talk of the Ludwig Standard line. I have a Standard 22,16,13,12 kit in Gold Strata. I hadn't really gotten around to cleaning them up because they were in good shape but need heads. I pulled the head on the 16 to look for the date stamp. I was looking for a date stamp like on my 1961 Ludwigs not the paper tag with the blue/olive logo. Anyway the date of May 14, 1971 was stamped and model number 140 was hand written on the tag.

No one has said anything about Standard badges without serial numbers. My Standards' badges don't have them. Does anybody else have a kit without serial numbers?

I have a bass drum with a badge that does not have a number on it.

All 3 of my 22" kicks have 20 lugs. The 2 20" I had were drilled for 16 lugs. One had a white interior, I do not remember the other. All 2 22's have the granitone interior...

OK' I know that this is an old thread, but a may have some useful info. Here are some pics of my base drum badge and the paper tag off the same drum. Someone on one of the forums says the number on the tag makes it built in 1971. ? Number on the badge is 52435.
