Anyone know what the early 80's Standard line drums were made of? All I can find is 4ply die-mold wood shells.

Birch and poplar, mostly poplar.
Thanks, do they sound good? I have a chance to pick one up that was re-wrapped in silver sparkle and it has the classic lugs, thanks.
They sound pretty good, but I wouldn't pay a whole bunch for them, as they are not as valuable as the all maple shell drums of the same period.
I've got a couple of the late Standard's / Early Rockers (the same thing depending on the age). One kit has granite-tone interiors, the other, earlier kit is clear coated. I'm convinced they are the same shells, since with alike heads you can't tell them apart. These things are really the deals of the age for gigging kits. I paid $75.00 for my first (yard sale) and $150.00 for the second (C/L). They came with those power dot heads (I think) and I really don't care for that sound, but changed to single ply coated heads, top and bottom... sweet. I've seen these go for around $300.00 to $400.00 all cleaned up and shiny. Like I said, cheap but sweet gigging or practice kits.
I have a luddy S/L 83/84 kit, 4 ply tom 6 ply kick,Only dif bet standard is 6 ply kick and heavy duty curved spurs, the kick is real strong they sound good at low to med high tunings IMO.
They have been my beater/outdoor /rehearsal/dive gig kit for 15 years ,so they have been moved abused set up and down countless times and are still ready to go,I have not had to replace any parts at all. They have been stored in a band trailer through summer/winter a few times, the shells are still in round, and the black cortex wrap is as tight as the day I bought them.
I have recorded them a couple of times and they went to tape much better than I expected,at 300.00 to 400.00 a very good value.
