I believe you're right on the center screw being the center point. I don't have a 14" floor tom anymore to measure, but my opinion is that the mounts would look better if positioned at the same height as the mounts from a Ludwig 16" tom of the same era, especially if the 14" will be paired with a 16".

If you need that measurement I can get that later today from an early 80's Ludwig 16" floor tom.

Also, take a look at the respective floor toms of the same era on ebay. I believe the mount heights are the same, but I could be wrong too.

Thanks for the reply! It really is appreciated! I'm not sure if the 16" floor would be at the same height as the 14". I do have a 16" to measure but I was hoping that someone with a 14" Ludwig floor would measure so that I could be be sure. I would imagine any Ludwig 14" floor tom would work for the measurement. There been a lot of views on this post. I'm hoping someone will help out and post their measurement .

Going to measure one now.

With hoop on, 6 inches from bottom of hoop to center of mount. Without hoop and head right at 4.5" from bottom of drum shell to center of mount. This is from a 60's 14x14 Ludwig Classic floor tom. Hope this helps.

No drilling necessary if you had gotten the Ludwig Atlas mounts..

They fit almost all hole spacings, isolate the floor tom, gives the drum great resonance, and a pack of 3 costs just under $130..

Thanks to all of you that replied. I have a new set of Ludwig P17185AP Elite Tom Brackets that I'm planning on using. Not like the original 16" mounts but they look pretty robust. If anyone thinks these are a bad choice let me know. I'm going to wait a couple of days before I get to drilling. Just in case I'm making a mistake,. I'm not a drummer just a bass player so I have to trust you guys on this one!

Drilling holes in original drums that never had them to begin with, is not a good choice, as it decreases the value of the drum, and kills resonance, although not by much. If you still have the original bill for the brackets, i would exchange them for the ATLAS brackets.. I personally think it's the best way to go.. Good luck !

Thanks again to all that replied. I'm going to have to go with the Elite mounts I bought. Unable to return them. I'm hoping that someone with a Ludwig 14" floor tom can help me with this last part .

I measured the circumference of the 14" tom . It came out to be 44". I was advised to place the first leg directly across from the Ludwig badge as a reference. That makes sense as the 16" tom I have does this.

I was going to divide the circumference by 3 to get the position for the other two leg mounts. That doesn't seem to work on the 16" floor we have.

Could I ask someone that has a 14" Ludwig floor tom take a measurement using the leg directly across from the badge as a starting point and advise me of what they get for a number at the other two legs?

I did this with my wife's cloth sewing tape measure to go around the drum.

As an example when I did this on the 16" I got a overall circumference of 51" (measuring around the wood part of the shell.)

From leg across from badge (I'll call that #1) to leg #2 (I got 19")

At leg #2 (I got 38")

So the distance from leg #1 to Leg#2 was 19"

The distance from leg #2 to leg#3 was 19"

The distance from leg #3 back to leg #1 was 13"

I hope I'm explaining all of this correctly. Any help would really be appreciated. Just trying to keep the tom balanced. Since it's a 10 lug tom I can't really use the 16" as much of a reference.
