Ludwig marcher - help ID date

Loading...

Hi fellows - have always wanted a vintage marching snare. Hit the button on eBay last night and scored one. No badge present. Bad picture of strainer. Looks like it all may not be present but I'm unsure. I imagine the paint/lacquer is not original but I know some could be ordered with colors.

Snare wire instead of gut.

I may have paid a bit too much once you factor in shipping but whatever. Now I have another project!

Nearest I can figure it's close to a 1957 Prep Model Parade drum. Thanks to the catalogs posted here. Any thoughts appreciated. Terrible pics but I'll post better ones when it arrives.

Thanks,

-Doug

Looks like a mid/late 40s Drummer, Champion, or Scout model Parade Drum. Finding out when they went from straight across strainer snare cord holes to staggered holes would help narrow the year/model down.

1964 Ludwig Downbeat Black Diamond Pearl (12,13,14,16,20)
1976 Ludwig Stainless Steel "Bop" (12,14,18)
1998 Ayotte "Ray Era" Wood Hoop Copper Sparkle (10,12,14,16,20)

Thanks Rotarded -

Ah yes ... if that strainer is original. :D I wonder. Not having a badge makes it tough.

Thanks!

I actually use my blue and olive Ludwig Classic snare of the same dimensions with my trap kit and it makes for a fantastic drumset snare, (with the right stand )

Hey Slingerlad - a pal at our church would do the same thing and that's how I got the idea. It was a bit of a struggle to get the right playing height, like you say, but it sounded great.
