Ludwig Flat-Base Stands

Loading...

Just wondering if there's any difference between the bottom section of a Ludwig flat-base 1400 cymbal stand and a Ludwig flat-base 1363 snare drum stand?

Also, do all 1400s have the Ludwig logo engraved in their bottom sections?

Finally (I promise), when did the company switch from its "script" logo to the "block lettering" logo on its 1400s?

THANKS in advance for your time and your help!

I don't recall my script logo 1400's having logos on them at all...

the switch from script to block lettering was in the late 60's...

I have used cymbals stand bottoms as 1400 bottoms. I have not compared them to see if they are identical however..

Hi, Mike.

I'm a little confused (nothing new there). How would you know if you've got a base from a "script logo 1400" if it doesn't have a logo on it at all?

i'd need to dig some out to see. I think it may be the type of wingnut possibly. I don't recall exactly. i'll do some checking tomorrow and try to report back..

also the script logo models had a different center section as far as tightening the top rod for some years. when they are mated up and everything looks right, I assume they are original.

I found some on ebay just now that confirm what I thought..

here is a block logo model. has the lettering on the bottom clamp. wingnuts are different from the earlier stands...

the 60's script logo era has no script lettering on it whatsoever...

hope this helps some..

I think the snare stand bottoms might have been a little bit shorter than cymbal stands. I use numerous snare stand bottoms (with modern middle and top sections of various brands) on multiple kits. I think some were exactly the same. On the rare occasion I use a 1363 for a snare drum (with a modern, "basket" style top section), I usually have to cut down the base vertical shaft section, especially on a 5" or deeper snare. I pop off the top of the base section (the whole piece that the wing nut threads into) and put it back on with some JB Weld after it's been cut. You can't cut the base too much, because the legs still need room to go "up the shaft" to fold.
