Ludwig Concert Tom Last viewed: 23 hours ago

Hello, everyone!

I'm thinking of buying a vintage Ludwig concert tom, for sale on eBay, but I wish to to know if it's an original Ludwig tom, as I can't seem to find this kind of lugs anywhere:

I used to have a full set of melodic/concert toms circa '77, but sold the 6, 8, 10 & 12 (still have the 13, 14, 15, 16).

The riveted trim looks to be circa '81 or later but the lugs don't look Ludwig to me. They should be either the classic or mini classic lug and should have the three verticle grooves in them. I attached some catalog images for you to review.

[LIST]

[*]The first image is from the '84 catalog and shows good detail in the lugs and the riveted trim.

[*]Second image is from an '81 catalog to show a set configuration.

[*]Thrid image is from the '80 catalog to show a set configuration before the trim was added to the bottom bearing edge.

[*]The fourth image is from the '81 catalog when it looks like the riveted trim debuted.

The pointy edged badge probably shouldn't be on a drum with that aluminum trim on the bottom (should be bare edge) and those lugs aren't anything Ludwig ever used. Hard to say what it might be but I think I'd steer clear unless it was really cheap.

Looks like someone found an exact counter-fit (get it ? ;)) to the Ludwig lug spacing, and then replaced them..
