First post, so apologies if this is a topic that is beaten to death. I didn't find any answers in my thread search. So...
I made a set of Ludwig 3-ply drums out of mongrel orphaned ebay/craiglist purchases. In breaking the drums down, fixing, rewrapping etc. I learned a lot about the construction and hardware on the drums. One thing that puzzles me is the different cut on the bearing edges between the drums. The drums came without badges, but one had a sticker inside. The drums:
14 x 10 (1971 sticker inside)
16 x 16 (mid 60's based on lower breather hole location and older P-1216A leg mounts)
18 x 16 (date unknown, clear maple interior)
24 x 14 (date unknown, clear maple interior)
The 14 and 16 have a more rounded profile, which seems to be the standard from what I have seen. The 18 and 24 have more of a sharper 45 degree with less roundover on the outside. The edges on all the drums look to be original. Did Ludwig cut different profiles in different eras or on different size drums?
Sorry about the long-winded post, but just something that has been naggin me.
