Ludwig 21 Inch Bass Drums?

Loading...

Did Ludwig make 21 inch bass drums in the 1950s?

A guy I know is selling a Luddy bass drum from a 50s set and he says it's 21 inches.

I'm thinking that he is simply measuring wrong, maybe from the edges of the hoop instead of the shell.

Anyone know for sure?

thanks.

Admittedly, once we get back to the 50s I don't know much... but, I'd have to say it would be more likely older than that.

I had a Ludwig bass drum out of the 20s once (sold it to VDF member CIBdrummer). IF I remember correctly, it actually measured 25" in diameter...

After WW2 a lot of drummers with big bass drums had them cut down to smaller sizes. Since they were using skin heads, the odd sizes weren't a big deal for drum heads. That's usually the reason for odd sized bass drums. Ludwig didn't make 21's or 25's that I've heard.
