LUDWIG 1938's STANDARD SNARE Last viewed: 9 minutes ago

Lorenzo, man I've studied the pics for a good while I'm just not really sure it still looks like a plied shell. but I'm not 100% sure of that the pics are just not that easy to tell from. I have a Ludwig Ludwig kit I'm selling that would match your snare drum perfectly. here is a pic of it.

What a wonderful set You have!!really really really lovely!how old is it? Unfortunately I play drums in a Indie/pop band, and the ludwig will sound with my N&C maple set! If You are not sure about the shell, why don't You send me an hd image of Your snare via mail? I will compare Your image with my snare! I don't undersand what You mean When You say "plied shell": do You mean that it has multiple plies, like 3 or four, or that it has a single ply shell ( what i call solid shell)?

Lorenzo, yeah I think your shell has multiple plies, in one of the photos it looks like a solid shell one ply drum, but the other photos it looks like it has multiple plies. I own quite a few solid shell snare drums now and have owned a bus load of them, it's just the paint on your drum covers up the bearing edge to where I can't be postive on it as far a one ply or mutli ply shell, My kit is a 1948 L&L kit.

Hi! i'm sorry for my disappearing but I was out from home! unfortunately i cannot take other pictures of the shell for the moment, because i've just tuned it for some recordings, but i will send you some when i'll change the heads!

looking on it from the real i'm shure that the shell is a only one plied mahogany shell, and as I told you before the only "external" pieces are the reinforcement maple rings!

I finally tried it with my drum set, and it's amazing. I don't know why on the late 30's they made a "modern sound" snare drum like this one!

Lorenzo, the modern sound is from the maple shell ,45 degree bearing edges, and the snare bed profile. a Slingerland Radio King from this time period the 30's-40's is a good snare drum for a less modern drum sound if that's what your after.
