Little Slingerland Blackrome Concert Toms. Whats the story? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Loading...

So as some of you might know I have these cute little 6 and 8 inch Slingerland concert toms in black chrome or "blackrome" on ebay from the late 70's. The auction is going absolutely CRAZY with watchers and I had a bid at $99.99 within the first 8 hours or so.

Are these things super rare or what? I wasn't expecting this kind of scenario! They seem to be 5 ply but only with rings on the bottom. I put brand new heads on them and tapped em with my fingers. They sound fantastic. Just not for me in terms of sizes on anything Id ever play other than maybe an aux percussion set up or something.

Anyway...Id love to hear any knowledge anyone has about these little buggers! They are pretty cool!

Nice toms. I've been playing the same Blackrome kit since 1979. I believe the blackrome was used for about 3 years before they scraped the idea of metal wraps. I'm not sure I would say they're rare but there's not many out there that I've found. Spotted a blackrome snare a few years ago (when I had no money), went back and was gone.

Didn't Neil Peart play a black chrome Slingy set in the late 70's before he got with Tama and the famous red drums?

Yes he did,but the set was a chrome wrap not the blackchrome wrap.If irecall right that set was on Ebay 3 or 4 years ago and sold for 10,000.00-12,000.00 just for the drums and stands.Again if i recall right it was double bass,2 or 3 mounted toms ,2 floor toms amd a snare...Mikey

Neil's last slingerland kit was in black chrome used from 1977-1979, before he switched to tama.

Did he rock these little tiny guys? They are so cool, but so small that I think Id miss most times trying to hit that little 6 incher during any sort of real show situation!

Oh yes he did, on the "Temples of Syrinx" section of 2112, probably one of the most air-drummed songs in history ... could be another thread!
