Are these the original finish or not? I bought these online from GC after hours so I Was not able to confirm. As soon as someone from the store is able to look in the shell and tells me whether the stamp is M or P I will have my answer. This is the only picture I have so this should be fun. I'll start by saying that they are NOT original. Very few of these kits exist in this kind of condition. The only thing that throws me off is the hoops. But, we all know that it is not too difficult to re-finish these as well. If they are non original, I'll cancel my order before they are shipped. What say you?

If they were wrapped (wearing the "P" for "pearl" stamp) they generally would have an outside mahogany ply. So these are probably original, although I suppose they could have been lacquered drums that were stripped or wrapped drums that were stripped and rewrapped in maple veneer. More likely that they are just a factory maple set. Bass hoops look okay to me.

I'll be optimistic and vote original. The finish looks too good to be a rehab. Let us know what happens.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I say original. I have a Teakwood veneer kit. The bass drum hoops are just like the ones in the pic.

you guys are all correct!!!!! Being the pessimist that I am, I am the only wrong one. I did speak to the store and both toms have the M stamp. They were not able to find any stamp at all on the bass drum and the floor tom has coated heads top and bottom and I did not feel like being an ass an requesting that they take it off. The only bummer is that the tom holder was not brought in. If anyone has a spare one please let me know. I feel like I paid fair market value for the kit at $599. If this was a Ludwig in this condition it would be double that. But, it is not.

If those had been local @ that price I doubt I could have resisted. Nice snag.
