They're cool old drums from an historical standpoint. Haven't actually heard one of those wartime drums (Dreadnaught, Rolling Bomber, etc.) and don't know that I'd want to play it and risk damaging a piece of history.

What I know about them is probably what you already know: During WWII, there were government-imposed restrictions on the use of metals. Drum builders had to drop their products' content to something like 10% metal, so companies like Ludwig, Slingerland, and Leedy used wood for hoops & lugs.

I've got a matching floor tom (missing the legs). I would be interested in your snare drum, or may consider selling my drum to whomever acquires your snare drum.

If the drum is complete i can't see the strainer side but i do see the snare wire's are missing these can be found with-out a problem...With that said value of your snare is 400.00-500.00+...Mikey

Hi,

I found this thread while looking for information on my Leedy Dreadnaught mahogany concert snare. Shell is 8x15", six lugs, and the inside shell is stamped "4406."

I had a hard time even finding a picture of this on the internet, much less a value. All hardware appears to be original, top calfskin head is intact, bottom one is missing, rods show very little wear, snares are intact, finish shows appropriate wear and oxidation, and their is a very slight laminate separation on the bottom hoop that does not affect appearance or function. The "70" you see on the left lug cover was done with gold paint, and can probably be removed.

If I was to list this on eBay, what would reasonable starting and Buy-it-Now prices be? It doesn't seem one like this comes up for sale often.

Thanks for any help and insight you can provide. I bought it because it reminded me of one I played as a kid, and it has sat as a display piece in my home for the last 20+ years.

Mine is stamped 4408. My snare appears to attach differently. That is a good looking snare drum.
