I got a day-after-Christmas present when I found a guy selling two - as he called them - "old snare drums". The first is a 8 x 14 Leedy that had been in a case along with a stand, a collection of Ludwig & Ludwig sticks, Leedy brushes and a yet-to-be identified bass drum pedal.
I gave a simple cleaning to this Leedy, which still has the original snares and calf heads. There's some "mellowing" of the WMP color but overall it's in fantastic shape. There was no date stamp inside, only ".020 P###". And there is a "404" etched into the bottom hoop, which I'm thinking may be an inventory stamp (?). The badge is also a little different in that it does not say "USA", though I saw on Steve Maxwell's site that he has one that is the same.
Can any of you Leedy experts help me pin down a date?
By the way, the other snare is a 7 x 14 Slingerland Radio King that needs some serious attention but is a very cool drum as well. I'll post photos of that as I get into it.
Thanks!
