Late Rogers Wood Last viewed: 1 day ago

The XP10 Maple SuperTen is unique to the Rogers Big R Period. The quality of SuperTen and Dyna-Sonic Wood Snare Drums of this late period, is top end, even on todays market. The Rogers wood Dyna-Sonic of the 1960's was produced in much larger numbers than the late issue Big R Maple snare drums.

Available in 5, 6.5, and 8 x14 models, these drums were based on a Ten Ply All North American Maple Keller Shell.

They are rare, some of the rarest Rogers snare drums ever. They sound fantastic.

Eight examples of two rare Rogers snare drums. Several were aquired from original owners.

Enjoy

Top: Twin 6.5x14 1983/84 Dynasonics with consecutive serial numbers

2nd: Mid 1983 Superten 8x14, Dynasonic 6.5x14, and Superten 8x14

3rd: 1983 Gina Schock 6.5x14 Superten, 1983 6.5x14 Superten

BTM: Early issue 1981/82 8x14 Superten.

I have one drum with two tiny extra holes put in by the original owner for an aftermarket dampener. I have one drum that requires two aftermarket screws to be replaced.

The finish on almost all of them is excellent, although a few have expected dings in the lacquer.

Ploughman,

With so many identical snares, do you tune them all identically, or tune each one differently? I have three COB Dyna's, each tuned for a different application.

Also, do you find any value in those tension rod lock nuts on the Dyna's? I never understood the concept, as the batter head goes out of tune because it is being struck, not because the tension rods are inadvertently turning on their own.

I dont think I have ever played hard enough to need luglocks. But I suppose they do work. Probably much better than most of the things that have been on the market since then, excepting those that are very similar.

Some are tuned similar... but across the board, they are mostly set up differently.

Batters will be single ply coated, remo ambassador, or diplomat, or

I love the Evans J1 etched head on a snare. It sticks very well, and is glorious with brushes. Plus, theres no coating to wear off. One of these drums has the original Rogers batter on it, and the drum was unplayed when I received it. Had never been touched. Yea, I probably should have taken those off. I really dont care for the G1 Coated head.

Holy buckets! That's one nice collection. I'm waiting for my Rob Cook Rogers book to arrive this week & am looking forward to sitting down w/ it. Had no clue anything @ big R could fall into the rare category.

I'll 2nd that on the J1 etched heads. Use them on my vintage Ludwigs.
