Late 40s Slingerland Radio King kit Last viewed: 6 hours ago

PLAYER SPECIAL! Late 40s Slingerland WMP w 7x14 Radio King $950 PPG + split shipping within the contiguous 48 states.

This is not for collectors! If you’re looking for an RK kit for your Slingy museum, please pass. If you’re looking for a great looking and playing Slingerland kit with tons of that old mojo, read on...

The basics: no extra holes on any drum. All wrap, t-rods, hoops, hoop clips are original to the kit.

The Details on each:

8x12 rack tom

All original.

Slingerland-stamped COB hoops, COB clips, muffler, bass drum hoop mount, hardware, wrap.

RK stamped calf heads top/bottom

12x14 floor tom (orphan add-on)

Mounting hardware is a mix of orig and a few non original mounting screws, original wrap

Orig COB hoops (top is Slingerland stamped), COB clips, (2) mufflers, bass drum hoop mount

This drum was an orphan that I added. It came with some ugly calf heads (included, never played).

I never got around to polishing the hardware, it is in fair condition. The drum is solid, sounds good.

14x24 kick

Orig ’46-48 brass & tan Cloud Badge & grommet.

Orig wood hoops (tons of mojo – lacquer flaking, marks from pedal, spurs)

Orig RK Stamped calf heads front/back

Mounting hardware is all original and complete

The original nickel on the lugs was totally gone – flaking, bubbling, a complete mess. The lugs had to be replated. Unfortunately the new nickel is super bright compared to the old stuff. Part of why this is a players kit.

One of the rerings had to be reset. Bob Rodriguez reset the rering with epoxy.

One of the wrap seams was glued down (it looks clean and tidy)

For reliability and ease of use, I chose the excellent DW hoop spurs with this kit. They are reliable, strong, and did the job well. They are included, along with the original hoop clamp spurs (missing the rubber tips).

7x14 Radio King snare

Orig ’48-50 brass & tan ‘Large Football Badge’ & grommet

Slingerland-stamped COB hoops, muffler. For some reason, the throw was missing a few washers, I added new production bronze lock washers to complete it.

The scarf joint and the bottom rering was separating. Bob Rodriguez gently coaxed the scarf back into place and reset the rering with epoxy. The drum is solid and plays beautifully with (snug) modern heads and Puresound repro wires.

***All rering/scarf joint/wrap fixing work on the kit was done by the excellent Bob Rodriguez. These drums have been played out numerous times with my country rock outfit and received many compliments for both their sound and beautiful look. Never abused, adult owned by a non-smoker, pet free, etc. They are ready to go to a new home where they will be loved and played.

Are you sure that is not a 12 by 14 mounted tom that was made into a FT?

If indeed a 14 by 14...that is a super rare drum!

I just measured it. You are absolutely correct - it is a 12x14. I edited the original description. My apologies, I did not intend to mislead anyone. Thank you for catching that error. When I bought that add on, the seller called it a 14x14, I never thought otherwise.

Both toms are mounted toms, I never felt comfortable hanging them off of the bass drum hoops, so I used the modern snare baskets (included).

that kit is deeply cool. If only it could be shipped to me at a price that didn't make my eyes water.
